Getting to the University of Edinburgh

The University of Edinburgh Centre for Open Learning is based in central Edinburgh.

  • By train: Edinburgh Waverley station is the main station, about 15–20 minutes’ walk or a short bus ride from the university.
  • By bus: Lothian Buses serve the university from across Edinburgh. Routes 23, 27, 35, 45 stop nearby.
  • By air: Edinburgh Airport is about 30 minutes from the city centre by tram (Edinburgh Gateway) or bus.

If you’re travelling from outside Edinburgh, December can bring cold and unpredictable weather in Scotland. Allow extra travel time and check ScotRail for any disruptions.

Why Edinburgh?

Edinburgh is the only JLPT test centre in Scotland. If you’re based in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Aberdeen, or anywhere else in Scotland, this is your nearest option for the December test.

For the July test, you’ll need to travel to one of the three English centres: SOAS London, King’s College London, or the University of Leicester.
