Basic Meaning and Usage

「〜のまま」means “as it is” or “without changing”. It shows that something continues in the same state without any change.

Sentence Patterns

Pattern 1: Noun + の + まま
制服のまま寝ました = I slept in my uniform (as I was)
靴のまま部屋に入りました = I entered the room with shoes on
Pattern 2: い-adjective + まま
汚いままにしました = I left it dirty (as it was)
新しいまま保管します = I’ll keep it new (without using it)
Pattern 3: Verb ている + まま
立っているまま話します = I’ll speak while standing
座っているまま待ちます = I’ll wait while sitting
Pattern 4: Verb た + まま
電気をつけたまま寝ました = I slept with the lights on
ドアを開けたまま出かけました = I went out leaving the door open
