「ねこのひげ」という店みせ

マークは東京とうきょうに住すんで三さんか月げつになる。Mark has been living in Tokyo for three months.ある日ひ、会社かいしゃの先輩せんぱいの山田やまださんが言いった。One day, Mr Yamada, a senior colleague at work, said to him,「駅えきの近ちかくに『ねこのひげ』という喫茶店があるよ。コーヒーがおいしいんだ。」"There's a café near the station called Cat's Whiskers. The coffee's great."マークはねこが大好だいすきだ。Mark loves cats.「ねこがいる店みせかな。」と思おもって、土曜日どようびに行いってみることにした。Thinking it might be a café with cats, he decided to go on Saturday.

店みせは古ふるくて小ちいさかった。The café was old and small.中なかに入はいると、白しろいひげの長ながいマスターが「いらっしゃいませ」と言いった。When he went in, the owner, who had a long white beard, said, "Welcome."マークは店みせの中なかを見回みまわした。Mark looked around the café.でも、ねこはどこにもいなかった。But there wasn't a cat anywhere.

「すみません、ねこはいないんですか。」"Excuse me, don't you have any cats?"マスターは笑わらって、自分じぶんのひげをさわった。The owner laughed and touched his beard.「『ねこのひげ』というのは、私わたしのひげのことなんですよ。」"'Cat's Whiskers' means my whiskers."「昔むかし、孫まごが『おじいちゃんのひげ、ねこみたい』と言いったので、そういう名前なまえにしたんです。」"Years ago, my grandchild said my whiskers looked like a cat's, so I gave it that name."マークは少すこしがっかりしたが、コーヒーを飲のんでみた。Mark was a little disappointed, but he tried the coffee.本当ほんとうにおいしかった。It really was delicious.

月曜日げつようび、マークは山田やまださんに言いった。On Monday, Mark said to Mr Yamada,「あの店みせ、ねこはいませんでしたよ。」"There weren't any cats at that café."山田やまださんはにっこりした。「でも、ひげは見みただろう？」Mr Yamada grinned. "But you saw the whiskers, didn't you?"
