弟おとうとがほしがるもの

弟おとうとのソウタは八歳はっさいだ。My little brother, Sota, is eight.最近さいきん、ソウタは犬いぬをほしがっている。Recently, Sota has been wanting a dog.「犬いぬがほしい！毎日まいにち、ちゃんと散歩さんぽに連つれて行いくから！」"I want a dog! I'll take it for a walk every single day!"誕生日たんじょうびのプレゼントも、クリスマスのプレゼントも、犬いぬがいいと言いう。He says he wants a dog for his birthday and for Christmas too.毎日まいにちそう言いうが、母はははいつも「だめ」と言いう。He says it every day, but Mum always says no.

ある週末しゅうまつ、家族かぞくで公園こうえんに行いった。One weekend, the family went to the park.公園こうえんには大おおきな犬いぬがたくさんいた。There were lots of big dogs in the park.ソウタは走はしって犬いぬのところへ行いった。Sota ran over to the dogs.でも、犬いぬが「ワン！」とほえると、ソウタは父ちちの後うしろにかくれた。But when a dog barked "Woof!", Sota hid behind Dad.母ははは笑わらった。「ほら、こわがっているじゃない。」Mum laughed. "See? You're scared."「こわがってないよ。ちょっとびっくりしただけ。」"I'm not scared. I was just a bit surprised."

帰かえり道みち、ソウタはずっと静しずかだった。On the way home, Sota was quiet the whole time.その夜よる、ソウタは母ははに言いった。That night, Sota said to Mum,「犬いぬはやめる。」"I don't want a dog any more."母ははは「そう。」と言いって、ほっとした顔かおをした。Mum said, "I see," and looked relieved.「そのかわり、ねこがいい！」"I want a cat instead!"母ははは大おおきなため息いきをついた。Mum gave a big sigh.でも、そのとなりで、父ちちがうれしそうな顔かおをしていた。But next to her, Dad was looking very pleased.実じつは、父ちちもずっと前まえからねこをほしがっていたのだ。The truth was, Dad had been wanting a cat for years too.
