Takeshi works at a small company. Every Monday morning, flowers are set out on the table in the meeting room. Nobody on the staff knows who brings them. Last week, Takeshi was asked about it by his department head.
Takeshi found that he wanted to know the truth. The following Monday, he went in to work an hour earlier than usual. When he opened the meeting room door, there was someone inside. It was Mrs Morita, the woman who comes in to clean every morning.
She was pouring water into a small vase.「森田さんだったんですか。」"So it was you all along, Mrs Morita?"「ええ。 Yes. They're flowers from my garden." Mrs Morita looked embarrassed and lowered her eyes.「みんなには言わないでくださいね。」"Please don't tell the others."
At the meeting that day, the department head brought up the flowers.「月曜の朝、この花を見ると元気が出ますね。」"Seeing these on a Monday morning really cheers you up, doesn't it?" The other staff thanked Takeshi too, which left him rather stuck.「本当に、私じゃないんです。」"It honestly isn't me." The head laughed and said, "Whoever it is will be pleased to hear that."
The next Monday, a small card had been placed beside the vase.「いつもありがとうございます。」"Thank you, as always." That morning's flowers were a little bigger than usual.
