コインランドリーの忘わすれ物もの

土曜日どようびの朝あさ、マリアは近所きんじょのコインランドリーに行いった。On Saturday morning, Maria went to the laundromat in her neighbourhood.部屋へやに洗濯機せんたくきがないわけではない。It's not that there's no washing machine in her flat.ただ、壊こわれていて、大家おおやさんに頼たのんでもなかなか直なおしてもらえないのだ。It's just that it's broken, and even when she asks the landlord, it never gets fixed.

洗濯物せんたくものを入いれてスタートボタンを押おすと、隣となりの乾燥機かんそうきの上うえに青あおいマフラーが置おいてあるのに気きがついた。She loaded her laundry and pressed start, and then noticed a blue scarf left on top of the dryer next to hers.誰だれかの忘わすれ物ものらしい。It seemed someone had left it behind.手てに取とってみると、柔やわらかくて、とても暖あたたかそうだった。When she picked it up, it was soft and looked really warm.

「すみません、これ、どなたのですか。」"Excuse me, whose is this?"

店みせの中なかには誰だれもいなかった。There was nobody in the shop.壁かべには「忘わすれ物ものはこの箱はこに入いれてください」という紙かみが貼はってあった。On the wall was a notice: "Please put lost property in this box."

マリアはマフラーをきれいにたたんで、箱はこに入いれた。Maria folded the scarf neatly and put it in the box.そのついでに中なかを見みると、靴下くつしたや手袋てぶくろのほかに、小ちいさな封筒ふうとうが入はいっていた。While she was at it, she looked inside, and besides socks and gloves, there was a small envelope.封筒ふうとうには「見みつけてくれた人ひとへ」と書かいてある。On the envelope was written: "To whoever found this."

開あけるかどうか少すこし迷まよったが、中なかを見みることにした。She hesitated a little over whether to open it, but decided to look inside.入はいっていたのは、手書てがきのメッセージだった。Inside was a handwritten message.

「青あおいマフラーは、祖母そぼが編あんでくれたものです。"My grandmother knitted this blue scarf for me.嫌きらいになったわけではありませんが、私わたしにはもう小ちいさいので、ここに置おいていきます。It's not that I've stopped liking it. It's just too small for me now, so I'm leaving it here.寒さむい人ひとが使つかってください。」Please let someone who's cold use it."

マリアは箱はこから、もう一度いちどマフラーを出だした。Maria took the scarf out of the box once more.洗濯せんたくが終おわるまで、あと三十分さんじゅっぷん。Thirty more minutes until the wash was done.マフラーを首くびに巻まいて、窓まどの外そとを見みた。She wrapped the scarf round her neck and looked out of the window.外そとは、思おもったより寒さむそうだった。Outside looked colder than she had thought.
