銭湯せんとうの富士山ふじさん

冬ふゆの夕方ゆうがた、仕事しごとの帰かえりに銭湯せんとうへ寄よるのが好すきだ。On winter evenings I like to stop at the public bath on my way home from work.寒さむい日ひに熱あつい湯ゆに入るときほど、幸せな時間はない。There is no happier time than getting into hot water on a cold day.近所きんじょの銭湯せんとうは建物たてものも道具どうぐも古ふるいが、中なかはいつもきれいに掃除そうじされている。The bath in my neighbourhood is old in both its building and its fittings, but inside it is always kept spotless.壁かべには、大おおきな富士ふじ山やまの絵えが描えがかれている。On the wall there is a painting of a great Mount Fuji.常連じょうれんの客きゃくは、大人はもちろん、小ちいさい子こどもも多おおい。Among the regulars there are adults, of course, and plenty of small children too.

私わたしがこの銭湯せんとうに通い始めたのは、三年前さんねんまえの引ひっ越こしのすぐあとだ。I started coming to this bath just after I moved house three years ago.初はじめは一人ひとりで入はいるのが少すこし恥はずかしかった。At first I felt a little shy about going in on my own.それでも、番台ばんだいの丸山まるやまさんが毎回声まいかいこえをかけてくれた。Even so, Maruyama at the front desk spoke to me every single time.「今日きょうも寒さむいねえ」"Cold again today, isn't it?"その一言ひとことで、肩かたの力ちからが抜ぬけた。With that one remark, the tension left my shoulders.

ある晩ばん、隣となりで大地だいちくんという男おとこの子こが、湯ゆに顔かおをつけて遊あそんでいた。One evening, a boy called Daichi was playing next to me, putting his face in the water.お父とうさんに注意ちゅういされると、大地だいちくんは湯ゆの中なかで十じゅうまで数え始めた。When his father told him off, Daichi began counting to ten in the bath.十じゅうまで数かぞえたら出でる、という約束やくそくらしい。The rule seemed to be that he could get out once he had counted to ten.数かぞえ方かたがだんだん遅おそくなるので、私わたしは笑わらいそうになった。His counting grew slower and slower, and I almost laughed.風呂ふろから上あがって、瓶びんの牛乳ぎゅうにゅうを買かった。After getting out of the bath, I bought a bottle of milk.銭湯せんとうの牛乳ほど冷たい飲み物はない、といつも思おもう。There is no drink as cold as the milk at a public bath, I always think.

丸山まるやまさんは、来月らいげつから月曜げつようも店みせを開あけることにしたと教おしえてくれた。Maruyama told me that from next month the place would open on Mondays as well.休やすみが減へるのは大変たいへんではないかと聞きくと、丸山まるやまさんは首くびを振ふった。When I asked whether having fewer days off would be hard, Maruyama shook his head.「来きてくれる人ひとがいる間あいだは、できるだけ開あけたいからね」"As long as there are people who come, I want to open as much as I can."外そとに出でると、屋根やねの上うえに湯気ゆげが白しろく上あがっていた。Outside, steam was rising white above the roof.駅えきまでの道みちを歩あるいても、体からだはまだ温あたたかかった。Even walking all the way to the station, my body was still warm.こういう帰り道ほど、気持ちのいいものはない。There is nothing more pleasant than a walk home like that.来週らいしゅうも、同おなじ時間じかんにのれんをくぐるだろう。Next week too, I expect I will duck under the curtain at the same hour.
