瀬戸さんは毎朝、満員のバスで会社へ通っています。Every morning Mr Seto travels to work on a packed bus.雨の日は道が込んで、三十分以上かかります。On rainy days the roads are busy and it takes more than thirty minutes.先月、会社の近くに自転車置き場ができました。Last month a bicycle park was built near his office.瀬戸さんは、来月から自転車で通ってみようと思いました。Mr Seto thought he would try cycling to work from next month.
土曜日に、物置の古い自転車をそうじしました。On Saturday he cleaned the old bicycle in his storeroom.日曜日は、会社までの道を一度走ってみる予定です。On Sunday he plans to ride the route to the office once.その前に、地図で安全な道を調べようと思いました。Before that, he thought he would look up a safe road on the map.
日曜日の朝、瀬戸さんは川に沿った道を走りました。On Sunday morning Mr Seto rode along the road beside the river.車が少なくて、思ったより気持ちがよかったです。There were few cars, and it felt better than he had expected.でも、最後の坂で足が止まりました。But on the last hill his legs stopped.これを毎日続けるのはむずかしいだろうと思いました。He thought it would probably be hard to keep this up every day.
月曜日、会社で同じ課の人にその話をしました。On Monday he mentioned it to someone in his section at work.「あの坂は、一つ先の信号で右に曲がると楽ですよ。」"For that hill, it is easier if you turn right at the next set of lights."次の朝、教えてもらった道で行ってみました。The next morning he went by the road he had been told about.坂はなくて、二十五分で会社に着きました。There was no hill, and he got to the office in twenty five minutes.
今、瀬戸さんは週に三日、自転車で通っています。Mr Seto now cycles in three days a week.雨の日はバスにしようと思っています。On rainy days he thinks he will take the bus.夏までには、もっと遠くまで走れるでしょう。By the summer he will probably be able to ride further.机の引き出しには、新しい地図が入っています。In his desk drawer there is a new map.
