忘わすれ物もののノート

ベトナム出身しゅっしんのランは、東京とうきょうのビジネスホテルでフロントの仕事しごとをしている。Lan, who is from Vietnam, works on the front desk of a business hotel in Tokyo.日本にほんに来きて四年よねん、日常会話にちじょうかいわには困こまらなくなったが、ホテルの敬語けいごはいまだに難むずかしい。Four years after coming to Japan, everyday conversation is no longer a problem, but hotel keigo is still hard.最初さいしょに特とくに苦労くろうしたのが、「〜次第しだい」という言いい方かただった。At first, one expression she particularly struggled with was "-shidai".

「確認でき次第、ご連絡れんらくいたします。」"We will contact you as soon as we are able to confirm."「お部屋へやの準備ができ次第、ご案内あんないいたします。」"We will show you to your room as soon as it is ready."先輩せんぱいたちは、こうした表現ひょうげんをまるで呼吸こきゅうするように使つかいこなす。Her senior colleagues used expressions like these as naturally as breathing.ランは休憩時間きゅうけいじかんのたびに、ノートに例文れいぶんを書かいて練習れんしゅうした。In every break, Lan practised by writing example sentences in a notebook.

ある朝あさ、チェックアウトしたばかりの年配ねんぱいの男性客だんせいきゃくから電話でんわがかかってきた。One morning, she got a phone call from an elderly male guest who had just checked out.「部屋へやにノートを忘わすれたかもしれないんです。"I think I may have left a notebook in my room.大切たいせつなものなので、探さがしていただけませんか。」It's important to me, so could you look for it, please?"ランは落おち着ついて答こたえた。Lan answered calmly.「かしこまりました。"Certainly, sir.見つかり次第、ご連絡れんらくいたします。」We will contact you as soon as we find it."練習れんしゅうの成果せいかか、言葉ことばは自然しぜんに出でてきた。Perhaps thanks to all her practice, the words came out naturally.

清掃せいそうスタッフに確認かくにんすると、ノートはベッドの横よこの引ひき出だしに入はいっていた。When she checked with the cleaning staff, the notebook was in the drawer beside the bed.住所じゅうしょを確たしかめようと最初さいしょのページを開ひらいたランは、思おもわず手てを止とめた。Lan opened the first page to find his address, and stopped short.そこには、見覚みおぼえのある言葉ことばがカタカナで並ならんでいた。There, written in katakana, were words she recognised.「シンチャオ（こんにちは）」「カムオン（ありがとう）」。"Xin chào (hello)", "Cảm ơn (thank you)".ベトナム語ごの練習れんしゅうノートだったのだ。It was a notebook for practising Vietnamese.

折おり返かえし電話でんわをすると、男性だんせいは照てれくさそうに事情じじょうを話はなしてくれた。When she called him back, the man explained, a little sheepishly.娘むすめがベトナムの人ひとと結婚けっこんし、来月らいげつ初はじめて孫まごに会あいに行くのだという。His daughter had married a Vietnamese man, and next month he was going to meet his grandchild for the first time.「この年としで外国語がいこくごなんて、と笑わらわれましたがね。"People laughed at me, learning a foreign language at my age.発音はつおんがさっぱりわからなくて。」And I can't make head or tail of the pronunciation."

ノートを送おくる前まえに、ランは最後さいごのページに付箋ふせんを一枚いちまい貼はった。Before sending the notebook, Lan stuck a sticky note on the last page.そこには、ベトナム語ごと日本語にほんごで「楽たのしいご旅行りょこうを」と書かいた。On it, she wrote "Have a wonderful trip" in Vietnamese and Japanese.そして少すこし考かんがえてから、もう一行いちぎょう書かき足たした。Then, after thinking for a moment, she added one more line.「発音はつおんのご質問しつもんは、いつでもフロントのランまで。」"For any questions about pronunciation, please ask Lan at the front desk at any time."
